Brigham and Women's Hospital: Blood Pressure Screening

Blood pressure is the measure of the force the blood exerts on artery walls when the heart contracts (systolic) and relaxes (diastolic). The higher your blood pressure, the greater your risk for certain chronic diseases, such as heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, eye damage, and hardening of the arteries (Atherosclerosis).

Brigham and Women's Hospital: Body Mass Index (BMI) Analysis

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of an adult's weight in relation to his or her height.  Overweight and obesity are primary risk factors for many chronic health conditions, including hypertension, high cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder dysfunction, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea and respiratory problems.

Brigham and Women's Hospital: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Screening

COPD is a progressive disease that makes it hard to breathe, mainly caused by cigarette smoking. COPD causes coughing that produces large amounts of mucus, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and other symptoms. Two types of lung functioning tests, spirometry and pulse oximetry, will be available in the exhibit to help determine your risks.

Brigham and Women's Hospital: Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) occurs when plaque builds up in the arteries that carry blood to your head, organs, and limbs. If you have PAD, your risk for coronary artery disease, heart attack, and stroke is greater. A simple test called an ankle-brachial index (ABI) will be used to  compare blood pressure in your ankle to blood pressure in your arm. This test shows how well blood is flowing in your limbs.

Concerned about varicose veins? This screening evaluates you for a new one-hour laser treatment that can return you back to your normal everyday activities.

Dana-Farber’s Blum Family Van

Stop by our exhibit and put your family on the road to better health. Come aboard Dana-Farber's Blum Family Van to get screened for prostate cancer (Sat. 10 - 2) and skin cancer (Sun. 10 - 3). Plus, experts will discuss survivorship care for those who have completed cancer treatment, provide breast health education, perform skin damage assessments, and share sun safety tips. We'll also have information on how you can join the fight against cancer with our blood and marrow donor programs, as well as fun activities for the kids.

Massachusetts Chiropractic Society

Doctors from the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society will be volunteering their time to check spines for subluxation, assess posture, and answer health related questions on Chiropractic Health Care.

Learn how many calories you need on a daily basis. Using your current height, weight, age, activity level and a goal of either weight maintenance or loss, Mass General Nutrition Services staff will help you get a personalized "calorie prescription" for your daily calorie, along with additional tools to help you learn about portion control, tips for eating out, and overall guidance of how to choose a healthy and balanced diet each day.
